These days people are shopping online just as much as brick and mortar, if not more.   All day people are surfing the web to find the most exclusive merchandise with the deepest discount.  Having this precedent set has created the perfect environment for curated sale sites.

Until recently, most curated sale sites featured designer clothes, shoes and accessories (ie: Gilt , Rue La La).  But what about the folks who are remodeling a home, or the girl furnishing  her 1st apartment? Where can they shop online for exclusive merchandise with the deepest discount? [Read more...]

Philadelphia Home Show

welcome

This past weekend the Philadelphia Home Show opened at the Pennsylvania Convention Center right on time. We are 2 weeks into the new year and I’m sure we are all still energized and excited about our resolutions. Some of the most common resolutions revolve around the idea of “out with the old; in with the new”.  If you’ve resolved to organize or remodel your home, visiting the home show may offer some inspiration.

This marks the 31st year for the Philly Home Show. There were over 300 vendors exhibiting products, services and more! Here are some highlights from the show.

Local interior designers displayed spaces that showed new trends in colors, decor and fabrics for 2012. The 1st space was created by Denise Sabia of The Painted Home.

This room was designed for the word traveling vintage lover. The lamps made from globes were very eye catching; as were the mixed patterns and shades of the bed linen. In the last photo, you see that mirror on the desk? It’s actually a TV, mp3 player and mirror! Super DOPE!

Next, Dwelling of Manyunk designed a space they consider to be “Eco Chic”.  Encompassing bold colors and Wild animal prints inspired by the jungles of Thailand.

Visual Artist and Interior Designer, Tommi Mische` K. used her clients foreign studies experience in Paris as inspiration for this room.

Tommi explained that the headboard and the painting above the mantle are all original pieces that she created for this client specifically. The black velvet and regal purple definitely give this room a Parisian aesthetic.

In keeping with all things Paris, France , Allure Window Treatments displayed an example of a window treatment using silk fabrics in mustard and pewter.

I immediately fell in love with this canvas chair; the gold trimming makes it look like a throne. Lemon, lime and magenta toss pillows added for a pop of color were fun. If you’re in the Philly area, you can visit the Allure Window Treatments showroom in South Philly.

Outside of the interior designers, there tons of other vendors selling everything from an iron that’s safe to use on sequins and beading; to showers equipped with mp3 players and blue tooth technology for cell phone use! Although there were lots of vendors to take in at the Philly Home Show, they were pretty much all exterior focused. I would have loved to see more furniture, paint and decor, and interior focused vendors.

If you are interested in visiting the Philadelphia Home Show, you can purchase tickets online for $10. The show will be at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from now through Sunday, January 22, 2012.

Does your city have a Home Show? What do you think of the designers we’ve highlighted?
